The Bylaws state: The Director for Professional development shall be responsible for planning, recommending, and implementing professional training and development experiences (at least one each term). All professional training and development activities are subject of the approval of the Executive Board.

The Director of Professional Development organizes at least one professional development opportunity each term during fall winter and spring. Professional Development sessions last two to four hours and provide information and training on relevant leadership topics.

Responsibilities in this position include securing the presenters, arranging for meeting location, catering, and coordinating the expenses with the PFLA treasurer. The Director of Professional Development forwards publicity information to the Marketing Director for editing and “advertising punch;” making sure the information has shown up of the Web and/or in an email to the membership. The usual amount of time involved with each activity is fairly minimal with the most work occurring while securing the presenter and on the actual day of the event.

The Director of Professional Development will make arrangements for welcoming, attending to , and introducing each speaker. A welcome to participants and a short promotion of PFLA should be included with each event. After the events the Director will draft letters of thanks to the speakers for the President's signature.
